Design Objectives

With designing physical events during the pandemic era comes numerous challenges to maximize efficiency with a limited budget so my main mission for this project was to:

  • Balance cultural representation and brand visibility in promoting local tourism by designing an engaing layout that immersives visitors in Taipei’s heritage while offering ample exposure for each participating brand.
  • Create flexible, cost-effective booth architecture by utilizing the MAXIMA aluminum system to construct a versatile, sustainable booth that accommodates seven collaborating brands, maximizing display efficiency and visibility. This approach ensures the structure’s reusability, keeping within budget constraints while supporting both functional and aesthetic goals.

My Proposal to Utilize Cultural History as Booth Theme

My approach was rooted in a deep dive into Taipei’s architectural heritage, using historical research to shape the theme and spatial layout of the booth. Inspired by Bopiliao, a unique street in Taipei known for its dual-sided storefronts, I crafted a walkthrough experience representing the two facets of the city—one side preserving traditional heritage, the other embracing modern adaptation.

In this cultural context, the seven brand displays seamlessly integrated into the scenery, creating an environment where visitors could explore and shop as if strolling through Taipei's evolving streetscape.

The Initial Design

The front consist of the Taipei we know of today, the skyscraper skyline known for the extravagant fireworks on new years eve. From the back, it the various spots that preserved the traditional buildings form the past, turned into tourist spots and educational areas.

Final Design

The final design was adjusted based on the client needs, specific locations they are promoting and acitvities on site, while maintaining the original theme and structure of dual-storefronts.

Reception

The booth stood out among others for its unique design and successfully boosted sales for participating brands. The design was honored with the Best Booth Award at the Taipei International Travel Fair 2021, with up to 130,000 attendees.
